So you find yourself here, wanting to know more this new pilot – SolarShare – and you may have a few questions in mind. Before we get to that, let’s cover the foundation.
Electrify is a Singapore start-up, and we built the software that powers SolarShare. Akin to an Operating System (OS) powering the mobile device, laptop or desktop you’re using now, Electrify’ software allows fantastic things to happen on SolarShare.
We call this software Synergy.
So what is SolarShare?
SolarShare is the 6-month pilot we are running with Senoko Energy and ENGIE Factory.
In this time-limited plan, you will sell your generated solar energy above wholesale price as producing-consumers (prosumers). Alternatively, you can use solar energy and still enjoy savings from SP’s tariff rate as consumers.
Where do I sign up for SolarShare?
Phase 2 is now open! Simply have your power bill on hand, visit our SolarShare signup page and follow the listed steps. Only 60 slots are available for this round of sign-ups, so fastest fingers first!
Do I qualify to join SolarShare?
SolarShare is open to all current Senoko customers, regardless of when your contract is due for renewal. If you’re currently still contracted with SP or your retail plan with other retailers is up for renewal in December, you will be eligible as well.
I am an existing Senoko customer, can I join SolarShare?
Yes! All SP and Senoko users can be a part of this pilot. Do note that you will be following the rates from SolarShare plan instead of your existing Senoko plan once you switch over.
So how does SolarShare work?
Think of SolarShare as a marketplace for solar energy, where you can choose between different solar energy providers, or sign up as a vendor and list your product online. In the SolarShare marketplace, vendors can sell their product closer to the retail price and enjoy higher returns on their investment At the same time, consumers will have a broader range of vendors to choose from while enjoying savings from SP’s tariff rate.
Do I need solar panels?
No, and if you do own it, you can choose to sell your excess generation on SolarShare and increase your returns!
If you don’t have any excess generation, join us as a consumer to have more solar energy power your home or business!
What are the benefits of joining SolarShare?
By joining our pilot, consumers will be able to better understand their household energy consumption through our smart meter, as well as support local generation of solar energy.
Prosumers will get to sell their excess generated energy to other consumers at a rate above local wholesale prices.
What are the rates offered for SolarShare?
There will be two parts to your energy plan;
What is the duration of the SolarShare pilot?
SolarShare will run for six months. If required, any extension will be subjected to your approval.
What’s the difference between green energy and the energy we are using now?
Currently, most of us are consuming energy generated with liquid natural gas (LNG), one of the cleanest forms of fossil fuel. We are the first power generation company in Singapore to import LNG and have been doing so since 1992!
Renewable energy, or frequently known as green energy, comes from natural sources or processes that are naturally replenished. Some of these examples include solar, wind and hydro. In Singapore, the most favourable option is solar energy due to our sunny weather and lack of other resources.
What happened in Phase 1?
In August 2020, we launched SolarShare, limited to a cap of 12 participants; 2 prosumers and 10 consumers as a first test to running this commercial pilot. This is essential for us to smooth out any kinks, before moving on to Phase 2, where we will have 48 more participants join us.
Here’s what some of our Phase 1 participants have to say:
Solateks with its 305kWp solar PV system basking in the sun, generating enough electricity to power 61 four-room flats!
"Electrify and SolarShare is the step to the right direction for a smarter greener Singapore." - Stephan Kovalkov, CEO, Solateks
"Signing up with SolarShare was seamless, effective and most importantly cost-efficient." - Gerard Lee, SolarShare consumer
